Starting the journey

 

DR HONEY® was established in 2014 with the philosophy that some regions are naturally rich in resources favourable to produce a superior agricultural product due to their geographical situation, climate, and soil. The terroir forms its habitants’ activity and – after decades – results in exceptional food not found elsewhere.

The core value of DR HONEY® is to produce natural, unprocessed, and unblended raw honey. Our honey is never pasteurized nor fine filtered, it is unprocessed and free from additives. Our aim is to deliver the finest, most natural, and authentic food experience, improve well-being and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Remote areas, green forests and intact bee meadows are excellent sources of nectar. It pairs with the traditional ways of beekeeping, the careful keeping of bees and the proper veterinary supervision. These are giving us an extraordinarily pure natural honey. In decades, Hungarian honey has become a well-established, trusted brand; it is a much sought-after product all over the world, consumed with satisfaction by the most demanding palates. Nowadays Hungary is the third biggest honey producer country of the European Union.

 

Following the queen

 

Queen Bee, Andrea Viszlai, and her family are the owners of DR HONEY®. Andrea grew up in a small village where she studied and has practiced beekeeping with her parents. She made her master’s degree as a French and Hungarian teacher, then she worked for multinational companies. The passion for production has always been in her DNA and she finally turned this passion into a job and established DR HONEY® in 2014.

DR HONEY® is committed to small-scale authentic production under strict standards, to achieve honey of outstanding quality and purity. For the satisfaction of our consumers we ensure that our honey is originated exclusively from Hungary, is collected from pure GMO-free areas, most of them from natural parks, and is never blended with honey from other countries. The main production zone of DR HONEY® is the 80 km area of the Tokaj UNESCO World Heritage Site, the still intact Tokaj- Zemplén Landscape Protection Area and its surroundings. The most important characteristic of our honey is its floral purity.

For the best quality artisanal products, we teamed up and source from trusted, sustainable apiaries who work with great care and share our passion for honey. All seasonal batches are regularly tested in an independent laboratory in compliance with the European Community Standards.

 

 

Our processes

 

How to produce single-flower honey? Some secrets need to be kept close: but at the dead of night the beekeepers drive their ’nomadic’ hives to the forests and leave them in situ for 10-15 days during full pollination. Then they drive the bees home to extract the riches by cold pressing. Only this nomadic beekeeping can produce distinctive, characterful honeys.

We believe in a process that preserves the raw honey’s inner value and natural goodness. Our honey is gently strained at a low temperature to maintain the pollen and enzymes in the finished product – all those healthy components the bees put in. Every single batches are hand made to ensure the highest quality possible for you. Monofloral or flavoured honey – there is something for everyone. All the honey we fill in our high-end jars were matured by real bees in their hives. Only this matured and unprocessed honey contains all health benefits: vitamins, antioxidants, enzymes and minerals and it has a distinctive flavour, colour and fragrance.
