Great Taste, the world’s most coveted food and drink awards, has announced its stars of 2019. Out of 12,772 products sent in from over 100 different countries, Hungaroharvest Kft. was awarded a 2-star Great Taste award, which means judges dubbed it above and beyond delicious for its Acacia honey with Milota 10 walnuts and for its Almond dragee coated with raspberry flavoured white chocolate and freeze-dried honey.
Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs, buyers, retailers and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakeable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind tasting by hundreds of judges.
There were 12,772 entries into Great Taste this year and of those products, 208 have been awarded a 3-star, 1,326 received a 2-star and 3,409 were awarded a 1-star accolade. The panel of judges this year included; cook, writer and champion of sustainable food, Melissa Hemsley, Kenny Tutt, MasterChef 2018 champion, author, Olia Hercules, chef and food writer, Gill Meller, Kavi Thakar from Dishoom, food writer and stylist, Georgina Hayden and author and chef, Zoe Adjonyoh, as well as food buyers from Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, Sourced Market and Partridges.
The judges described our acacia – walnuts combo as follows:
“The honey is clean and pure, complemented by good quality whole walnuts, delivering good flavour, without bitterness. Both deliver fantastic impact, seamlessly merging and complementing each other.”
“A beautifully balanced, delightful and well constructed meld of nuts and honey. The honey has unusual depth for acacia, and the density helps suspend the nuts well. Beautifully prepared walnuts, with little tannicity to the skins, generally sweet and tender – and the balance of sweetness is spot on. A really pleasing, well crafted example of its type.”
And the dragee was evaluated as:
“Pale pink handmade looking almonds. The raspberry comes through well balancing the white chocolate sweetness. The crunch of the almonds contrasts with the casing. The balance is excellent.”
“A pale pink dusted almond with a good flavour of raspberry in the chocolate – a good raspberry flavour of ripe fruit. The honey is less evident but it is adding a touch of sweetness. The white chocolate has a good flavour and it melts away well. The almond is crisp and of very good quality. The whole looks so beautiful when cut in half with its layers of pink and golden almond. A very well made dragee with a great taste”
“A very pretty, pale rose pink colour with even coating and consistency in the size of the almonds. The carefully chosen almonds have a good roasted richness in flavour and the bright raspberry notes in the chocolate complement the buttery nut. Well crafted and carefully produced resulting in a rounded, satisfying dragee”.
